Behind the curtains of Jesus Christ Superstar and popular Russian performances, she spent her childhood playing with costumes, rehearsing the roles and watching her parents night after night from the box seats. “Sometimes my father and I would walk down the street late at night after his show, and we would sing the parts in full voice for everyone to hear. That was his way to build up my courage.”
From “the Red Square to Time Square,” Stassia recreates her emotional and turbulent journey from Russia to North America on her soulfully acoustic track “Destination.” The influence of the underground hip hop scene in her new hometown of Toronto along with disciplined study under leading vocal coaches landed Stassia in Toronto’s top five radio.
“I don’t take myself too seriously.” Her ability to step outside herself as an “artist” and commit to the character of the song lends to believable storytelling. The blend of powerful strings and synthesizers along with a heavy drumbeat is the accompaniment for a grandiose vocal performance on the first single "SORRY". Her devilish portrait of a vengeful woman’s scorn is as intimate as confession yet boastful and without regret.
Stassia says her music “is for the smart girls, the strong women, the ones that are complex… and the boys that love them.” Success for her would mean being impersonated in drag. “A Drag-Queen is not going to spend four hours dressing up for nothing.”
A daughter of music Stassia is ready to take stage for the performance of a lifetime. Both singer and songwriter, she is working on a live show and completing her album.
